CSXT Intermodal is proud to serve a variety of customers. We understand the complexity of your business and the need to ship different types of cargo and commodities. Please review Service Directory 1 for a full list of restricted commodities. CSXT Intermodal allows for the shipment of these restricted commodities, given the appropriate guidelines and secure shipment.

Effective immediately, CSXT Intermodal will no longer accept international shipments of wet hides that originate or are destined to the Kansas City terminal. Please note, dry (blue) hides are accepted.

CONCENTRATED WEIGHTED PRODUCTS - CSXT INTERMODAL POLICY

CSXT Intermodal understands your need to ship unique commodity types. Some of these products, including the transport of concentrated weighted products are acceptable for transport with CSXT Intermodal, given the appropriate guidelines, load configuration and identification. Please see the Approval Request Form below.

In 1996, several railroads issued an embargo on shipping concentrated metal products ("CMP") (including, but not limited to all coil, plate, roll, spool or reel metal products) due to the increase in damage potential in these products. The weight and configuration of these products pose a unique problem for shipping via railroad. Therefore, in order to ship CMP the shipper, at its own expense, must adhere to strict rules for blocking and bracing, identification and safety and receive prior approval from CSXT Intermodal's Risk Management Group. 

The following general restrictions apply:

• Concentrated Weighted Products in excess of 3,500 lbs. each are to move in containers only.
• Concentrated Metal Products in excess of the equipment manufacturer's cargo weight limitation or the AAR maximum weight limit for the equipment in use will not be accepted.

CONCENTRATED WEIGHTED PRODUCTS - INSTRUCTIONS FOR SHIPPING

1. To initiate the approval process for shipping CMP the shipper must provide all information on the email Approval Request Form.


2. If the shipment will be interchanging with another rail carrier, the interchange carrier will be notified of the shipment and can approve or reject the shipment based on its own rules, and specified loading and blocking methods.

3. All shipping papers including, but not limited to waybill and shipping instructions, must clearly identify the products with the appropriate STCC code, commodity description and the additional notation clearly marked "Concentrated Weighted Products." CW can ship SPQ ONLY. For questions regarding the appropriate STCC code contact the CSXT Intermodal Pricing Department at 904-633-1133.

REQUIREMENTS FOR LOADING/SECURING

1. After the Approval Request Form has been received by CSXT Intermodal Risk Management, you will be contacted by a CSXT Intermodal Risk Management Representative to review the proposed loading and blocking method. Once the loading / blocking method is approved either a CSXT Intermodal Risk Management Representative must be present or photos must be provided to the Representative for review prior to shipping.
2. Shipper must inspect the trailer/container prior to loading to determine suitability to move CW. Suitability includes no visible defects to primary components specifically, floor cross - members, flooring, bottom rails and tunnel section. These components cannot have visible cracks, broken welds and any other deterioration (rust, corrosion, bending.) Any such visible defect could result in failure of the component and therefore make the trailer/container unfit for service in transporting CW.
3. All CW must be shipped in a trailer/container that
   • is suitable for the shipment of CW;
   • is approved by the equipment owner/supplier for the shipment of CW;
   • meets all current governmental regulations, trucking and AAR standards; and is less than 10 years old
4. CW must be palletized or on the prescribed Load Roll Pallet (LRP), or device that distributes the weight of the load evenly across the entire floor surface of the trailer/container.
5. CW must be secured to the pallet or other approved device using proper dunnage material to restrict product movement and maintain alignment while in transit.
6. The weight of the CW cannot exceed 25,000 pounds in any ten linear feet within the trailer/container. This weight must be evenly distributed on the trailer/container floor such that the weight does not exceed 300 pounds per square foot.
7. Coil strips (slits) must be unitized in stacks not to exceed 45 inches high, secured to the pallet and loaded or stacked in a manner that does not produce additional concentrated weight on the floor of the trailer/container.
8. At a minimum, blocking and bracing must consist of the following:
   • 2" x 6" dimensional lumber
   • Lumber is to be laminated ( two high ) and nailed independently
   • Positioned in both lateral and longitudinal directions
   • 16-penny nails, in staggered nailing pattern, spaced 4 -5 inches apart

HOUSEHOLD GOODS - CSXT INTERMODAL POLICY

CSXT Intermodal understands the demands placed on shippers to transport a variety of products. Shipments of household goods is possible with CSXT Intermodal and requires certain precautions in order to comply.

Household goods are defined under the ICC Termination Act of 1995 as:

Personal effects and property used or to be used in a dwelling, when a part of the equipment or supply of such dwelling, and similar property if the transportation of such effect or property is

1. arranged and paid for by the householder, except such term does not include property moving from a factory or store, other than property that the householder has purchased with intent to use in his or her dwelling and is transported at the request of, and the transportation charges are paid to the carrier, by the householder or 


2. arranged and paid for by another party.

CSXT Intermodal does not normally arrange for the shipment of household goods or privately owned automobiles. Prior to deregulation, special licensing was required to carry household goods. Even today, the shipment of household goods is subject to higher standards and special protective services. Household goods and privately owned automobiles are accepted for shipment only under an SPQ or specially arranged Price Authority.

PRIVATE VEHICLES - CSXT INTERMODAL POLICY

Many shippers are faced with transporting a variety of commodity types, CSXT Intermodal does allow for the shipment of containerized privately owned vehicles through appropriate logistics provider channels. This commodity offers unique complexities to assure it properly complies with proper blocking and bracing, security and compliance with hazardous materials regulations.

Privately Owned Automobiles are defined as

1. A passenger vehicle, not for resale, arranged and paid for by the owner.

CSXT Intermodal does not normally arrange for the shipment of household goods or privately owned automobiles. Prior to deregulation, special licensing was required to carry household goods. Even today, the shipment of household goods is subject to higher standards and special protective services. Household goods and privately owned automobiles are accepted for shipment only under an SPQ or specially arranged Price Authority.

Due to unique characteristics of Tobacco products, CSXT Intermodal complies with all AAR guidelines for proper loading, securing and indemnification of tobacco shipments.
